Gosia Chwatko is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Kentucky, part of the Stanley and Karen Pigman College of Engineering. She holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Connecticut, and a Ph.D., M.S., and postdoctoral fellowship (2019–2020) in Chemical and Biomedical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.
Research Interests: Her work focuses on sustainable separation processes, membrane synthesis for environmental and biomedical applications, and the development of recyclable polymers. Key projects include membrane-enhanced peptide synthesis, green solvent-based polymer systems, and eco-friendly particle synthesis. Research highlights include optimizing nanoparticle purification for viral vectors and designing hydrogels for wound care.
Advising & Team: She mentors graduate students in Chemical and Materials Engineering, including current Ph.D. students Sulaiman Dhameri, Emily Ingram, Mara Leach, Jason Stallings, and Endras Fadhilah. Undergraduate researchers and REU participants contribute to projects like upcycling plastics and sustainable solvent development. Alumni include Dr. Daniel Darby, now at Vector Electromagnetics LLC.
- Labs & Groups: Leads the Chwatko Research Group, emphasizing sustainability across chemical processes—from polymer synthesis to waste reduction.
- Outreach: Engages in community initiatives through the Pigman College of Engineering, promoting STEM education and sustainable technologies.
