Sarah Wheat is a Researcher at the Department of History and Theory of Architecture, University of Kassel, and a PhD candidate in the History of Art department at the University of Michigan. Her research explores cross-cultural interactions in architecture and design during the 19th and 20th centuries, with a focus on feminism, Orientalism, globalization of modernism, and the diaspora of German-speaking architects.
- Education: M.A. in Modern and Contemporary Art History from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2016).
Her dissertation investigates the intersection of Orientalism and international feminism in architecture and design histories of the U.S., Turkey, and Germany around 1900. Sarah has worked at Kulturprojekte Berlin and the Terra Foundation for American Art, and her publication in Expanding Dialogues of Diaspora (2021) examines Middle Eastern architectural manifestations in the Americas. She has received competitive fellowships, including the Rackham Humanities Fellowship and Weiser Center for Emerging Democracies Fellowship.
