Dr. Sarah Turpin-Nolan is a Research Fellow in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Metabolism at Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS), Monash University. Her research focuses on ceramides' role in metabolic diseases, particularly obesity, type II diabetes, and colorectal cancer. She investigates ceramide synthesis and transport mechanisms in gastrointestinal, lymphatic, and circulatory systems.
- PhD: University of Melbourne (2010), supervised by Prof. Matthew Watt
- Bachelor of Applied Science (Honours): RMIT University (2005)
Her research interests include sphingolipid biology, lipid oversupply consequences, and therapeutic approaches targeting ceramides. Current projects explore intestinal ceramide packaging and systemic insulin sensitivity modulation. She leads initiatives on lymphatic regulation in muscle metabolism and commercialization pathways for metabolic therapies.
Collaborations span institutions like the Max Planck Institute for Metabolism Research and involve experts in lipid metabolism and metabolic disease. She serves as Victorian Representative for the Australian Association of von Humboldt Fellows since 2020.
