Sarah Titus is a Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Geology at Carleton College, where she has been since 2006. Her research focuses on structural geology, particularly the spatial and temporal distribution of deformation in strike-slip fault systems like the San Andreas Fault. She leads field-based courses in California and New Zealand and has secured multiple NSF grants for collaborative research on fault dynamics and crustal deformation.

Her research integrates field data, computational models, and paleomagnetic analysis to understand fault-slip behavior, mantle deformation, and seismic cycle dynamics. She has pioneered studies on deformation bands in sandstones, stress variations in oceanic transform zones, and kinematic models of ridge-transform intersections.
Recent publications highlight her work on borehole breakout analysis, off-fault deformation in California, and statistical tools for structural geology. Over 15 articles list undergraduate co-authors, reflecting her commitment to student research mentorship.
