Sarah Swider

Sarah Swider is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at Wayne State University's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She also serves as an Affiliated Faculty member at the Center for Chinese Studies, University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.

Her research focuses on precarious and informal work, labor movements, sociology of development, migration, social inequality, and gender studies within China and Asian contexts. She has conducted extensive studies on institutional influences in job quality, state-market relations in informal labor markets, and urban citizenship struggles.

Swider's publications analyze critical issues in China including construction industry labor conditions, land expropriation negotiations, and migrant worker experiences. Her work has received recognition from the American Sociological Association and SAGE publications. She teaches foundational courses in sociology, social inequality, and sociological theory at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
