Sarah Smith is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Public Health at SUNY Old Westbury, within the School of Arts and Sciences. She holds a PhD in Applied Medical Anthropology from the University of South Florida (2014), an MPH in Community and Family Health (2009), and a BA in Anthropology from the University of Florida (2005).

Her research examines structural vulnerabilities faced by marginalized communities, particularly around gender-based violence and healthcare access. Notable work includes analyzing Chuukese migration patterns and their impact on reproductive health, as well as exploring clinical interpretation challenges in healthcare settings.
Recent publications highlight themes of imperialism, transnational identities, and the political economy of health. Technical reports address women’s health access in Guam and clinic capacity analysis in NYC. She advises students on migration studies and gender-based violence projects.
Collaborates with organizations like Guam Regional Health Centers and contributes to public health policy through transdisciplinary approaches.
