Sarah Schellinger

Sarah Schellinger is a Lecturer at The Ohio State University (OSU), specializing in Egyptian and Nubian (ancient Sudanese) art, archaeology, and culture. Her research emphasizes domestic architectural analysis of ruling and non-ruling classes and cultural interactions between Egypt and Nubia. She holds a PhD in Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations from the University of Toronto (2016), two MAs (one in Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations from Toronto, another in Art History from the University of Memphis), and a BA in Anthropology from OSU.

Previously, she was the inaugural Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Curatorial Fellow at the San Antonio Museum of Art (2016-2018), where she curated Egyptian Animal Mummies: Science Explores an Ancient Religion, highlighting religious significance and scientific analyses via X-rays and CT scans. She currently co-directs the Es-Selim R4 (ESR4) archaeological project in North Sudan, examining Kerma Period peoples' lived experiences before and after Egyptian New Kingdom colonization.

Her expertise spans museum curation, ancient cultural studies, and interdisciplinary approaches to archaeological research. Awards include the prestigious Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship, underscoring her contributions to curatorial and academic work.
