Sarah Renshaw is a part-time Senior Lecturer at the Manchester School of Architecture (MSA), combining academic work with her role as Architect-Director at Loop Systems, an award-winning Manchester-based architectural practice prioritizing co-operative principles. She has taught at MSA for over 10 years, currently co-leading BA3 with Richard Morton and leading MArch 1 alongside Abi Patel and Rachel Carter-Jones. Central to her practice is PRAXXIS, a feminist atelier she co-founded with Helen Aston, Emily Crompton, and Kat Timmins, emphasizing intersectional feminist debate, inclusive design, and transparent collaborative processes.
Her research focuses on feminist pedagogical strategies in architectural education, including projects like 'A Great Knowledge Give Away' (2018), which used zines and badge-making to challenge disciplinary perspectives, and the 'Stretford Builds' pavilion project (2019) engaging youth in participatory design. PRAXXIS's pedagogical framework is detailed in the 2020 Journal of Architectural Education article, highlighting personal/political/pedagogical triads in design education.
Professional engagement includes presentations like the 2021 SHEBUILD talk exploring PRAXXIS's impact. Her work bridges academic research, teaching innovation, and community-focused architectural practice, advocating for gender equity and socially responsive design. Office located at Manchester Technology Centre 2.09.
