Sarah Prior is an Associate Professor of Sociology and Undergraduate Program Director at Michigan State University (MSU), with additional roles as Director of the Bailey Scholars Program and Core Affiliated Faculty at the Center for Gender in Global Context. Her research focuses on gendered violence, institutional accountability for campus sexual violence, and the intersection of neoliberalism with higher education. She holds a PhD from Arizona State University (2012), MA from Northern Arizona University (2008), and BA from Gonzaga University (2004).
Research Interests: Prior’s work examines campus sexual violence through frameworks like institutional betrayal, sexual terrorism, and neoliberalism. She emphasizes systemic inequities and advocates for institutional reform, publishing interdisciplinary studies on rape culture, victimization of marginalized groups, and policy interventions. Her book Campus Sexual Violence: A State of Institutionalized Sexual Terrorism (2022) critiques institutional complicity in perpetuating sexual violence.
