Kascie Shewan is a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow (2021–2023) in McGill University's Department of Art History and Communication Studies. Her research examines the interplay between sexualized violence prevention strategies (e.g., consent education, bystander intervention) and neoliberal citizenship frameworks. Under Dr. Carrie Rentschler's supervision, she analyzes how popular media (TV, film, social media) shapes community-based anti-violence initiatives. Her work also explores intersectional feminist praxis in Canadian activism and pedagogy.
Education: PhD in English and Cultural Studies (McMaster University) and MA in Women’s Studies/Feminist Research (Western University).
Teaching: Designed courses like 'Interventions in Rape Culture(s)' and 'Violence at the Intersection of Gender, Sexuality, and Settler Colonialism.'
Publications include articles in Atlantis: Critical Studies in Gender, Culture & Social Justice and the Canadian Journal of Film Studies.
