Sarah Mendelson is a Distinguished Service Professor of Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and Director of CMU's Sustainable Futures initiative. She leads the Heinz College in Washington, DC, and co-chairs CMU's Sustainability Initiative. Her work focuses on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), leveraging AI to address data gaps, and promoting human rights through interdisciplinary collaboration. She also serves as a nonresident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution's Center for Sustainable Development and chairs SDSN USA. Previously, she held roles at USAID, the UN, and CSIS, specializing in democracy, human rights, and governance.

Research Interests: Mendelson's research bridges socioeconomic disparities, human rights frameworks, and global development challenges. She emphasizes interconnected issues like poverty, food insecurity, and maternal mortality through the SDG lens, advocating for systems addressing local needs and policy-driven social impact. Her Community of Practice initiative fosters collaboration among data scientists and rights experts to redefine development paradigms.
