Sarah Lyn Rea

Sarah Lyn Rea serves as a Senior Research Fellow and Senior Lecturer at the Personalised Medicine Centre within the Health Futures Institute at Murdoch University, where she leads research initiatives focused on neurodegenerative disease mechanisms and therapeutic development.

Her research spans neurodegenerative disorders including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), motor neuron disease (MND), dementia, and frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD). She investigates molecular pathways such as autophagy, proteostasis, and proteasome function, alongside genetic and genomic factors involving genes like SQSTM1/p62, TDP-43, SOD1, TBK1, and C9orf72. Her therapeutic work explores antisense oligonucleotides and gene therapy approaches, utilizing induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) for disease modeling and cell differentiation studies, with additional research extending to bone disease pathology.

As a core member of Murdoch University's Personalised Medicine Centre, Dr. Rea contributes to interdisciplinary collaborations aimed at translating molecular discoveries into personalized treatment strategies for complex neurological conditions.
