Notable projects include the Lothian Diary Project, examining pandemic experiences, and studies on Taiwan’s pandemic governance through a gender lens.
Liu is an Associate Editor of Representation: Journal of Representative Democracy and sits on the editorial board of Political Behavior. She has been recognized as an Emerging Diversity Scholar and one of Apolitical Foundation’s 50 influential scholars. Her research spans East Asian politics, feminist governance, and intersectional methodologies, with a focus on marginalized groups' political representation and activism.
