Sarah Jefferson is an Instructor in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine (Yale SOM), part of the Neuroscience Research Training Program (NRTP). Her work bridges clinical practice and translational research, focusing on neurobiological mechanisms of psychiatric disorders and novel therapeutics for depression. She holds a MD-PhD and has prior research experience at the University of Pennsylvania.
Research interests include psychedelic compounds' effects on brain circuits, structural plasticity in frontal cortex, and GABAergic neurotransmission's role in mood disorders. Her current studies investigate how psychedelics drive long-term antidepressant effects through synaptic changes. Mentors include Dr. Alex Kwan, Marina Picciotto, and Al Kaye.
