معرفی
Sarah Jane Alger is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where she has served since 2012. She also holds the role of Chemical Hygiene Officer for Biology. Her research focuses on animal behavior physiology, including reproductive behavior in zebra finches, stress behavior in retired research primates, and science communication. She writes for the blog The Scorpion and the Frog.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Zoology, University of Wisconsin–Madison
- M.S. in Biometry, University of Wisconsin–Madison
- B.A. in Biology, Macalester College
Research Interests: Alger explores how physiological processes underpin behavioral patterns in animals, with a focus on social and reproductive behaviors. Her work integrates neuroendocrinology and behavioral ecology, particularly in birds and mammals. She also advocates for effective science communication to bridge scientific research and public understanding.
Awards:
- UWSP University Excellence in Teaching Award (2017)
- UWSP Biology Department Excellence in Teaching Award (2016)
Teaching & Advising: Alger emphasizes foundational biology and chemistry education while encouraging students to pursue interdisciplinary experiences. She has advised students on projects involving animal behavior and physiology but no specific grant details are provided here.
Labs/Teams: While no specific lab names are listed, her research aligns with the Animal Behavior Society and Society for Behavioral Neuroendocrinology, organizations to which she belongs.
