Prof. Dr. Sarah Ihden is Professor of Historical Linguistics of German at the University of Rostock's Faculty of Philosophy since October 2025. She leads research in Middle Low German grammar, corpus linguistics, and language change.
Her research interests include:
- Grammar of Older German, especially Middle Low German
- Corpus linguistics and language variation
- Historical knowledge in practical texts (e.g., music textbooks)
- Low German language and contemporary German grammar
Recent publications (2024-2025) demonstrate expertise in Middle Low German inflection and historical word formation, using corpus-based analysis of morphological variation and syntactic structures in early modern vocal texts.
Current research projects:
- DFG project on diachronic word families
- Academy project on Middle Low German Grammar
- Habilitation project on early modern music textbooks
- Textbook development and digital repertorium for Middle Low German
