Sarah Hormozi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Cornell University’s College of Engineering. She previously served as an Assistant and then Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering at Ohio University from 2014 to 2020. She holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of British Columbia (2011) and completed an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship, one of Canada’s most prestigious research awards.
Her research lies at the intersection of fluid mechanics, rheology, and complex fluids, with a focus on dense suspensions of non-Brownian particles in yield stress and non-Newtonian fluids. Her work integrates computational modeling, advanced experiments, and theoretical analysis to study phenomena such as shear thickening, particle migration, and jamming. Applications span industrial processes (additive manufacturing, concrete, semiconductors) and natural systems (landslides, blood flow).
Recent publications (2022–2024) reveal a strong trend toward microscale dynamics (bacterial swimming, microgels), temperature-responsive materials for geothermal systems, and critical transitions in suspension rheology. She has secured significant funding, including an NSF CAREER award, and contributes to the scientific community through editorial advisory roles for journals such as Journal of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics and Physics of Fluids.
