Sarah Honigfeld serves as the Director of National Programs and Outreach for the Early Intervention Studies (EIS) department at Gallaudet University. She teaches graduate-level courses such as EIS-712 Internship & Seminar, ITF-700 Socio-Cultural & Policy Contexts in Deaf ITF, and FCS-320 Infants & Toddlers. Her academic focus revolves around early childhood development, deaf education, and strategies for communication and language acquisition in deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH) children.
Prof. Honigfeld is actively involved in academic leadership, advising 9 masters students in 2022/01 and 21 students (13 undergraduate, 8 masters) in 2023/02. She contributes to institutional committees including the Academic Assessment Council (AAC), GLIDE, and the EHDI Alliance. Her professional roles extend to board positions such as Board President of Gallaudet Hillel and Co-Coordinator of the Family Engagement and Outreach Professionals Network (FEOPN).
Her work emphasizes visual-centric teaching methodologies and interdisciplinary approaches to early intervention, with a focus on policy contexts and program development for DHH communities. She has led professional development initiatives including National ASL and English Bilingual Consortium in Early Childhood Education and Summer PDW sessions.
