Sarah Hammond is a researcher at the University of Adelaide's School of Public Health within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. She holds a diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care and has a strong background bridging scientific research with practical early childhood education experience.
Her research focuses on:
- Early origins of childhood health conditions
- Fetal growth restriction and neurodevelopment
- Maternal health impacts on child development
- Long-term cognitive and behavioral outcomes
Hammond completed her Bachelor of Health and Medical Sciences in 2020, followed by First Class Honours in 2021 where she studied how maternal asthma affects fetal airway development. Since 2021, she has been teaching first-year Human Anatomy & Physiology courses at the University of Adelaide. In 2022, she commenced her PhD at the University of South Australia under Professor Janna Morrison, investigating how fetal growth restriction affects hippocampus development. In 2025, she joined the BetterStart Group at the University of Adelaide to further her mission of optimizing early life experiences for children and families.
She was awarded the Healthy Development Adelaide PhD Excellence Award in 2022 in recognition of her academic potential and research contributions to the field of early childhood development.
