Sarah Grubb serves as a Lecturer at the University of Pittsburgh, where she has been the Primary Instructor for the SEA-PHAGES program's BIOSC courses since Fall 2014 through Spring 2018. Her teaching encompasses both in silico (phage genomics/bioinformatics) and in situ (phage discovery/microbiology) sections, utilizing bacterial hosts including Gordonia terrae, Mycobacterium smegmatis, and Rhodococcus erythropolis across 8+ course sections with 12-20 students each.
Her research focuses on:
- Microbial diversity through bacteriophage studies
- Bioinformatics applications in genomic analysis
- Undergraduate-driven phage discovery methodologies
- Evolutionary patterns in viral genomes
Dr. Grubb has mentored over 100 undergraduate students in hands-on genomic research, collaborating with prominent scientists like Graham Hatfull and Welkin Pope. Her work advances the SEA-PHAGES initiative's mission to integrate authentic research into undergraduate curricula while contributing to national phage genomics databases.
