Sarah-Grace Heller is the Department Chair and Associate Professor of French & Francophone Studies at The Ohio State University's Department of French and Italian, part of the College of Arts and Sciences. Her expertise spans Medieval French and Occitan literature, language, and material culture, with a focus on fashion theory and cultural history. She earned a PhD from the University of Minnesota (2000) and a BA from Grinnell College (1993).
Dr. Heller’s research explores topics like sumptuary laws, crusade literature, and the Roman de la Rose. She authored key works including Fashion in Medieval France (2007), A Cultural History of Fashion in a Medieval Age (2016), and Troubadour Texts and Contexts (2024). She serves as president of the Société Guilhem IX and on editorial boards for Medieval Clothing and Textiles and Tenso.
Prior administrative roles include Director and Associate Director of the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies. She has been featured in podcasts such as Gone Medieval and Voices of Excellence.
