Geneviève Young

Geneviève Young is a Research Associate in the Department of Music at King's College London, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts & Humanities. She holds a PhD in French from the University of Cambridge, focusing on Old French and Old Occitan epic poetry. Her research explores how literary participation shapes communal identities, particularly through medieval epic traditions and affective temporalities. She is a core member of the interdisciplinary MUSLIVE project, investigating medieval French song as a transnational social practice.

Education: PhD in French (Cambridge), MA in Comparative Literature (King’s College London), MA in French (University of Minnesota-Twin Cities), BA in French (College of St Catherine). Teaching experience spans French language instruction and seminars on medieval literature and critical theory across diverse educational contexts.

Research focuses on medieval epic poetry, performance communities, and theories of temporality. Her work bridges literary analysis with cultural studies, addressing themes like futurity, catastrophe, and national identity in medieval texts. Recent projects include studies on the Chanson de Roland, Occitan crusade epics, and Chrétien de Troyes' works.

Publications include peer-reviewed articles in Diacritics, MEDIUM AEVUM, and TENSO, alongside encyclopedia entries on medieval literature. She contributes datasets to the MUSLIVE project, including editions of medieval songs and charters.
