Sarah Francesca Green is a Professor of Social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Helsinki since 2012, previously holding professorial positions at the University of Manchester and lectureships at the University of Cambridge. Her research focuses on Mediterranean anthropology, borders, nonhuman mobilities, and gender studies. She leads major grants including an ERC Advanced Grant (2016-2021) titled "Crosslocations in the Mediterranean" and an Academy of Finland project on Mediterranean transit dynamics.
Her academic career includes roles as Head of Social and Cultural Anthropology at Helsinki (2014-2016) and Manchester (2007-2010). Notable awards include the Douglass Award (2006) for her influential book on Balkan border studies. She supervises doctoral programs in Gender, Culture, and Society as well as Social Sciences at Helsinki.
Key research themes include the shifting relative positioning of Mediterranean regions, zoonotic disease dynamics, and the socio-cultural implications of mobility. Her work combines ethnographic fieldwork with theoretical contributions to border studies and spatial anthropology.
