Sarah Fox is an Assistant Professor at Carnegie Mellon University’s Human-Computer Interaction Institute, where she directs the Tech Solidarity Lab. Her research examines how technological artifacts challenge or propagate social exclusions through design and critical analysis.
- Education: Ph.D. in Human Centered Design & Engineering from the University of Washington; Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of California, San Diego.
Research Interests include responsible computing, ethics, human-centered AI, and participatory design, with a focus on worker-centered AI systems and social justice. Her work bridges design practices and policy frameworks to address systemic inequities in technology.
Awards include the NSF CAREER Award, and her research has been recognized at premier conferences like ACM CSCW, CHI, and DIS.
She has advised multiple students and collaborated with labs such as the Tech Solidarity Lab. Prior to CMU, she worked at Microsoft Research, Google, and Intel Labs.
