Dr. Sarah Foster is an Associate Professor in the School of GUSS at RMIT University and an Australian Research Council Future Fellow. She is also the Associate Director of the 'Planning & Transport for Healthy Cities' theme at the Centre for Urban Research. Her research focuses on the interplay between urban design, public policy, and health outcomes, particularly in apartment living environments. She leads projects like 'The High Life Study' examining apartment design policies and their impact on residents' well-being. Dr. Foster is a member of the West Australian State Design Review Panel and serves as Senior Assistant Editor for the journal Environment and Behavior.
Her research interests include urban planning and health, social determinants of health, and social epidemiology. She actively contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health), 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and 11 (Sustainable Cities). Dr. Foster is open to supervising Masters and PhD students in topics such as apartment design policy, public transport accessibility, and health equity in urban environments.
Her recent publications explore the effects of apartment design on mental health, the role of communal spaces in reducing loneliness, and policy responses to post-pandemic urban planning challenges. Her work bridges academic research with practical policy implementation, aiming to create healthier and more equitable urban environments.
