Sarah F. Adams

Sarah F. Adams, MD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and the Gynecologic Oncology Program at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. She completed her medical degree and OB-GYN residency at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital (2009). Since 2012, she has been part of the UNM Gynecologic Oncology division, maintaining an active clinical practice while leading a translational research lab focused on ovarian cancer immunology. She holds leadership roles as Co-leader of the Cancer Therapeutics Research Program for the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center’s P30 grant and Associate Director of Translational Science at the same center. Her research emphasizes immunology of the peritoneal cavity in ovarian cancer and novel immuno-oncology clinical trials.

Dr. Adams’ research interests span ovarian cancer immunology, immunotherapy, and translational oncology. Her work includes investigating therapeutic synergies between immunotherapies and targeted agents (e.g., PARP inhibitors) in BRCA1-deficient cancers, as well as evaluating drugs like ketorolac for anti-metastatic effects. She also explores healthcare quality improvement, emphasizing patient engagement in primary care redesign and team-based care models. Her translational research bridges basic science discoveries to clinical applications, particularly in improving outcomes for ovarian cancer patients.

Her recent publications highlight innovations in ovarian cancer therapeutics, healthcare systems improvement, and immunomodulatory drug mechanisms. She collaborates with the Center for Infectious Disease and Immunity and leads initiatives to enhance translational science infrastructure at the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center.
