Dr. Sarah Evans is the Presidential Early Career Professor and Director of Children's and Young Adult Librarianship at the University of North Texas's College of Information. She co-directs the Multiple Literacies Lab and serves as Information Coordinator for IFLA's Libraries for Children and Young Adults Section. Evans holds a PhD in Learning Sciences, an MLIS, and a BA from the University of Washington, plus an elementary education certificate from Western Washington University.
Her research examines self-directed learning across contexts, focusing on literacy, identity, and equity. Current grant-funded projects include Raise Up Radio (family/youth learning through library radio), Diversifying Human-Centered Data Science (ethical game design), and Graphic Medicine (health literacy programs).
Research trends in her recent publications (2019-2025) emphasize data literacy frameworks, community-library partnerships, equity in technology fields, and innovative literacy methods using media/games. Her work advances representation of marginalized voices in LIS.
Teaching includes graduate courses in graphic novels, library programming, youth services, and adult materials. Service includes UNT Faculty Senate membership and international library association leadership.
