Sarah Carson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History of Science and Technology at the University of King's College. She holds a Ph.D. from Princeton University and specializes in the history of modern South Asia, focusing on weather, climate, and imperial science. Her research examines how predictive sciences like meteorology shaped colonial and postcolonial debates over scientific authority in the region.
Carson's current book project, Weathering Prediction, traces the contested role of scientific forecasting in South Asia from the 1860s to 1960s. Her work bridges historical analysis with interdisciplinary themes, including jyotiṣa śāstra (astral science), monsoon forecasting politics, and global environmental science.
She teaches courses such as History of Science and Technology, Anti-Colonial Science, and Introduction to the History of Science II, emphasizing critical engagement with colonial scientific practices and environmental histories.
Her research outputs include influential articles in The British Journal for the History of Science and History Compass, exploring intersections between climate history, predictive sciences, and cultural knowledge systems.
