Sarah Brüning is a Researcher at the Institute for Atmospheric Physics, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, working under the leadership of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Holger Tost. She is an active member of the Environmental Modelling in the Climate System research group based at J.-J.-Becherweg 21, 55128 Mainz, Germany.
Her research focuses on atmospheric physics and environmental modelling within the climate system. The group specializes in analyzing ceilometer aerosol backscatter data, improving signal-to-noise ratios for atmospheric structure identification, determining cloudiness and precipitation patterns, and deriving aerosol optical depth measurements. Current work includes examining convective cloud organization using superparameterised model outputs and investigating trace gas phase changes with hydrometeors.
As a core member of the research team, she collaborates on projects involving the EMAC model, MECO(n) Model, and observational data from CL61 Ceilometers, weather stations, and radiosoundings across multiple European locations. The group maintains extensive atmospheric monitoring infrastructure including aerosol PM observation systems and radiation sensors.
