Sarah Bolmarcich

Sarah Bolmarcich is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Classics at Arizona State University's School of International Letters and Cultures. She holds a B.A. from Smith College and advanced degrees from the University of Virginia and the University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on ancient Greek international relations, diplomacy, and epigraphy, with notable work on Athenian imperialism, treaty dynamics, and the role of oaths in classical diplomacy. She has held prestigious fellowships including the Fulbright and Jacob Hirsch Fellowships, and has published extensively in top-tier journals like Classical Quarterly and Mnemosyne.

Her academic career includes teaching roles at Loyola College, University of Michigan, University of Texas, and others before joining ASU in 2010. She advises the Barrett Honors College and teaches courses on Greek civilization, mythology, and ancient literature. Bolmarcich's community engagement includes outreach via the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and public lectures on topics like Sparta, Athenian democracy, and ancient coinage.

Her research interests span Greek and Roman historiography, epigraphy, and the intersection of religion with diplomacy. Current projects include a monograph on Thucydides' diplomatic insights and a sourcebook on Spartan history.
