Sarah Beasleigh is a Lecturer in Nursing at La Trobe University's Rural Health School in Bendigo, holding an Acting Senior Lecturer appointment since April 2023. She concurrently serves as a Critical Care Registered Nurse at Bendigo Health while pursuing doctoral studies in Nursing. Her academic work focuses on rural and regional nursing education across undergraduate, microcredential, and postgraduate programs.
Her educational background includes:
- Doctorate of Nursing (in progress, La Trobe University, 2019-present)
- Master of Nursing (Clinical Education, La Trobe University, 2010-2013)
- Graduate Diploma of Nursing (Critical Care, Deakin University, 2002-2003)
- Bachelor of Nursing (Pre-registration, Deakin University, 1998-2022)
- Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment (Futurmn, 2009)
Beasleigh's research centers on the preparedness of postgraduate critical care nursing students for rural practice contexts, examining curriculum effectiveness through her doctoral work. Her studies specifically address low-volume high-risk situations, patient stabilization protocols, and care for specialized populations within Australia's National Rural and Remote Nursing Generalist Framework.
Her three most recent publications demonstrate evolving expertise from naturopathic curriculum development (2015) to contemporary rural nursing education challenges (2024), with a growing emphasis on critical care preparedness in resource-limited settings and emerging applications of AI in nursing pedagogy.
Notable recognitions include:
- Scouts Australia Special Service Award (2024) for healthcare services during Cuboree 2023
- Three La Trobe Rural Health School Teaching and Learning Awards (2022-2023)
Beasleigh actively coordinates multiple programs including the Master of Nursing Practice and specialized microcredentials in rural health assessment. Her dual clinical-academic role informs curriculum development focused on bridging the gap between critical care education and rural practice realities, with particular attention to autonomous practice in low-resource environments.
