Sarah Batty is a Lecturer in Secondary History and Course Lead for the PGCE History programme at St Mary’s University. With nearly 20 years of experience as a secondary school teacher and Head of Department, she transitioned to higher education in 2015, focusing on teacher training and curriculum development. She holds a BA in History and Religious Studies, a PGCE in Secondary History, and an MA in History (Distinction) from Kingston University, where her dissertation explored U.S. federal government roles in enforcing school integration in Arkansas (1957).

Her research interests center on Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) in history education and optimizing feedback mechanisms for trainee teachers. Sarah has developed partnerships with the National Archives and the Holocaust Educational Trust to enhance teacher training programs. She also presented at St Mary’s University Learning and Teaching Festival (2021) on pandemic-related shifts in PGCE Secondary provision.
She serves as an External Examiner at Liverpool Hope University (2022-2023) and is a member of professional bodies including the Historical Association and Chartered College of Teaching.
