Sarah Arnold is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Media Studies at Maynooth University, Ireland. She previously held academic roles at Falmouth University and Southampton Solent University. Her research focuses on gender representation in media, women's cultural production, and media industries. She leads projects such as the Women in Focus initiative, investigating women’s amateur filmmaking, and the GEMINI project addressing gender stereotypes through educational drama. Arnold has authored/co-authored books including Maternal Horror Film: Motherhood and Melodrama and Media Graduates at Work: Irish Narratives on Policy, Education and Industry. She holds grants from the IRC/AHRC and the International Federation of Television Archives. Arnold supervises 3 PhD students and 2 postdoctoral researchers, teaching courses on media studies, cultural industries, and research methodologies.

Her research explores intersections of gender, labor, and technology in media. Arnold is actively involved in professional committees like the Faculty of Arts and Humanities’ Teaching and Learning Committee and Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion initiatives.
