Sara Moorman is a Professor and Department Chair of Sociology at Boston College, with a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research focuses on Aging and the Life Course, Family, Medical Sociology, and Quantitative Methods. She leads two major research initiatives: examining barriers to end-of-life treatment preferences and investigating early-life predictors of adult cognitive function. Moorman is a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America and serves on editorial boards of leading journals including The Gerontologist and Journal of Gerontology: Social Sciences. Her 2020 book, Dying in Old Age: U.S. Practice and Policy, analyzes societal systems affecting end-of-life care. Her work has been funded by the National Institute on Aging.
Her articles explore topics such as cognitive aging mechanisms, socioeconomic determinants of health, and the interplay between family dynamics and medical decision-making. Moorman teaches courses on health and aging, survey methodology, and multivariate statistics. Her contributions bridge sociological theory and applied policy analysis, emphasizing equity in healthcare systems and lifelong cognitive health.
