Sara Margarida Moreno Pires

Sara Margarida Moreno Pires is an Assistant Professor of Public Policies at the Department of Social, Political and Territorial Sciences at the University of Aveiro. She is an effective member of the GOVCOPP research center and serves as Co-Founder (since 2018) and President (since 2023) of the Environmental NGO Common Home of Humanity.

Her research focuses on sustainable development indicators, urban sustainability, climate action policies, green transition strategies, and territorial innovation with an emphasis on local governance. She has coordinated major projects such as the Ecological Footprint of Portuguese Municipalities (2018-2021) and the ERASMUS+ Project EUSTEPs (2019-2022), both recognized for their societal impact. She also leads pedagogical innovation initiatives like the ARTE project (2023-2025), integrating theater-based reflective learning for socio-ecological transformation.

Key achievements include a 2023 Sustainability Award from AASHE for co-authoring work on sustainability education in Higher Education Institutions. Her publications span environmental science, public policy, and urban studies, addressing topics like ecological footprint analysis, citizen engagement mechanisms, and regional innovation systems. She collaborates actively with local councils, NGOs, and private companies on sustainability projects.
