Dr. Sara Long is a Senior Research Fellow at RMIT University's School of Science, focusing on environmental stressor biomonitoring in waterways. As Interim Head of AQUEST A3P, she leads initiatives to develop biomonitoring methods for Australian species. Her research spans environmental assessment, pollution, and sustainable development goals, particularly Clean Water (SDG 6) and Life Below Water (SDG 14).
Her work involves collaborative projects with industry and academia, addressing contaminants like PFAS and pesticides in aquatic ecosystems. She supervises Masters and PhD students and engages in interdisciplinary research to advance ecological and human health outcomes.
Key projects include investigating pollutant impacts on invertebrates and microbial communities, using advanced techniques like eDNA metabarcoding and metabolomics. Long’s contributions bridge scientific innovation with practical applications for environmental policy and management.
