Sara Greenberger Rafferty is a Professor and the Ruth Stanton Chair of Art and Art History at Hunter College, Brooklyn. She previously held faculty positions at Pratt Institute, Hampshire College, and Suffolk County Community College (SUNY).
Education
- MFA in Sculpture and New Genres from Columbia University
- BFA in Photography with Art History Concentration from Rhode Island School of Design
Her work explores contemporary and mid-20th century visual culture, focusing on the evolving role of photographic images in the digital era. She combines materials like paper, plastic, glass, and video to interrogate these themes.
In 2022, Rafferty published the experimental monograph Studio Visit with Inventory Press. This work aligns with her broader interest in integrating artistic practice with theoretical inquiry.
Her interdisciplinary practice spans sculpture, photography, and new media, often incorporating elements of comedy to critique modern visual culture.
