Sara Curran is a Professor of Sociology, International Studies, and Public Policy & Governance at the University of Washington, holding joint appointments across multiple schools including the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies and the Daniel J. Evans School of Public Policy & Governance. She also serves as Director of the Center for Studies in Demography & Ecology and Associate Vice Provost for Research in the Office of Research. Her academic career began in 2005 at the University of Washington, with earlier degrees from the University of Michigan, North Carolina State University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Her research focuses on demography, migration, climate change, and environmental adaptation. Key projects include small-area population estimation, socio-environmental synthesis, and the intersection of forest restoration with socioeconomic factors. She chairs task forces on equity in research and leads interdisciplinary collaborations globally.
Editorial roles include Editor-in-Chief of Demography and Section Editor of Global Perspectives. Her service includes the National Academies Committee on Global Change Research and the Consortium of Social Science Associations.
Notable contributions include policy advocacy on census reforms, cybersecurity initiatives, and population health research. She directs the UW’s Population Research Infrastructure Grant and co-leads training programs in data science and demography.
