Sara Boezio is an Assistant Professor of Italian at the University of Notre Dame, specializing in 19th-century Italian literature and cultural history. Her research bridges literary analysis with interdisciplinary approaches, focusing on fin-de-siècle Italy, comparative literature, and cognitive poetics. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Warwick and completed her M.A. and B.A. at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa and the University of Pisa. Her current book project, Century’s Turn: Italy and the European Fin de Siècle, explores cultural narratives around the turn of the 20th century. She has been awarded the Galilei-Carducci Prize for her work on Italian-French literary connections. Boezio also contributes to academic organizations like the European Society for Periodical Research and teaches with recognized excellence, holding an Associate Teaching Fellowship from Advance HE.
Her research interests span modern Italian literature, Risorgimento studies, Gothic narratives, and cognitive approaches to literature. She has published widely on topics like subconscious consciousness, periodical press analysis, and comparative literary theory. Her work integrates historical inquiry with cognitive neuroscience, examining how readers engage with fictional minds through embodied simulation. She has organized international conferences on cross-cultural themes and collaborates with institutions across Europe and North America.
Boezio’s academic contributions include editing volumes on cognitive poetics and organizing panels on topics like decadence and regeneration in Italian literature. Her teaching emphasizes innovative pedagogy, and she maintains an active presence in both literary scholarship and public cultural initiatives.
