Sara Baguskas is an Associate Professor at the School of the Environment, San Francisco State University. Her research focuses on terrestrial biogeography, plant ecophysiology, and climate change impacts. She holds a Ph.D. in Geography from the University of California, Santa Barbara (2014).
Her work examines environmental change effects on plant physiology and water relations, with emphases on coastal fog ecosystems, Mediterranean climates, and urban ecohydrology. Techniques include field studies, manipulative experiments, and spatial analyses. Current projects include fog's role in salmonid habitats and montane meadow restoration.
Recent publications (2023-2016) highlight fog's buffering effects on ecosystems, drought impacts on meadow productivity, and sustainable agriculture practices. She advises students like Jessica Solis (M.A.) and Kapewa Hopfe (B.S.), both now in aligned careers. The Baguskas Lab collaborates on projects addressing climate adaptation and ecosystem resilience.
Her lab is currently based in the HSS Building at SF State, with Zoom office hours available. She is on sabbatical Fall 2024.
