Dr Sara Andersdotter is a Senior Lecturer in Visual Communication and Contextual & Theoretical Studies Lead at the University for the Creative Arts (UCA), Canterbury campus. She joined UCA in 2020 after 15 years in higher education, teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate art/design programs while serving as External Examiner for institutions including University of Salford, ArtEZ Netherlands, and Middlesex University.
Her academic credentials include:
- Bachelor of Fine Art from University of Newcastle, Australia
- Postgraduate Fine Art degree from Norwich University of the Arts
- PhD in Fine Art from University of the Arts London (2015)
Andersdotter's practice-based research interrogates photography's relationship with memory through Deleuzoguattarian and Bergsonian frameworks, exploring time, the undocumented, and non-human perspectives. Her 2023 co-edited handbook The Handbook of Research on the Relationship between Autobiographical Memory and Photography catalyzed the 2024 UCA-funded symposium Vestiges of Memory. Artistic practice incorporates bait cameras, archives, projections, and sensory elements like smell/heat, exhibited internationally since 1999.

She has secured research funding from UCA (2023) and Ravensbourne University London (2014, 2015), while her inclusive teaching methodology actively involves students in curriculum co-creation and non-hierarchical research journals.
