Sara Abedi is an Associate Professor in the Harold Vance Department of Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University, holding the Stephen A. Holditch Faculty Fellowship. She is also affiliated with the Civil & Environmental Engineering department. Her research focuses on the mechanics and physics of geomaterials, with an emphasis on multiscale chemo-mechanical characterization, reservoir geomechanics, and granular material failure. She directs the G3 Lab, which explores sustainable engineering solutions for geological materials and energy resources.
Education:
- Postdoc, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
- Ph.D., Civil Engineering, University of Southern California
- M.S. and B.S., Civil Engineering, University of Tehran
Research Interests:
Her work bridges geomechanics and geo-energy, addressing challenges in CO₂ storage, unconventional reservoirs, and chemo-mechanical interactions. Key areas include shale-rock interactions, fracture mechanics under reactive environments, and sustainable material utilization.
Key Awards:
- NSF CAREER Award (2021)
- Dean’s Excellence Award (2022)
- Karen E. Olson Excellence in Research Award (2022)
Grants & Labs:
Her research is supported by NSF and industry partners. The G3 Lab collaborates on projects like the Austin Chalk/Eagle Ford Field Laboratory, advancing field-scale reservoir understanding and sustainability.
Publications:
Recent work emphasizes CO₂-driven mechanical metamorphosis in shale, fracture characterization, and computational frameworks for chemo-mechanical systems. Her articles reflect a focus on micro-to-macro scale bridging in energy and environmental applications.
