Sara Ababneh is a Researcher at the Center for Strategic Studies (CSS), University of Jordan, and a former member of the Middle East and Comparative Politics Team led by Professor Schlumberger. She holds a DPhil in Politics and International Relations from the University of Oxford, with a thesis examining Islamic political parties and women’s empowerment. Her academic background includes a MSc from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, and a BSc from Earlham College.
Her research focuses on gender dynamics within Islamic political movements, Middle Eastern politics, and the intersection of religion, power, and activism. She has conducted fieldwork in Jordan, Palestine, and the U.S., exploring themes like resistance strategies, hybridity in political theory, and structural effects of Islamic activism. She has also served as a lecturer at the University of Oxford, a consultant for the British Empire and Commonwealth Museum, and an organizer of cultural exchange programs.
Ababneh has presented at international conferences, including the International Studies Association (ISA) and British International Studies Association (BISA), addressing topics such as hybridity as resistance, feminist critiques of Islamists, and gender equality in Jordan’s legal frameworks. She is a member of the ISA and BISA’s Gendering International Politics Working Group.
