Sandy Tolan is a **Professor of Journalism** and **Director of the Specialized Journalism (MA) program** at the University of Southern California's Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. His career spans over four decades as an award-winning journalist, author, and educator, focusing on global issues such as land conflicts, racial identity, and social justice.
He is the author of three internationally acclaimed books: The Lemon Tree (2006, with a young reader's edition in 2020), Children of the Stone (2015), and Me and Hank (2000). These works explore themes of conflict, human rights, and cultural narratives. Tolan has reported from over 40 countries for outlets like NPR, Al Jazeera, and The Los Angeles Times.
Research Interests: Tolan's work bridges journalism and academia, emphasizing investigative reporting on global crises such as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, environmental justice, and humanitarian issues. His reporting often highlights marginalized communities and systemic inequities.
