Sandy LaTourrette is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Southern California (USC). She runs the Child Learning & Development Lab (CHILD Lab), focusing on how language acquisition influences cognitive development. Her research explores mechanisms of word learning and the interplay between language and world knowledge in infants and children.
- Ph.D. in Psychology from Northwestern University (advisor: Sandra Waxman)
- NRSA Postdoctoral Fellowship at University of Pennsylvania (mentors: John Trueswell and Charles Yang)
- Former Visiting Assistant Professor at Haverford College, teaching courses like Language & Thought and Cognition
Her work is supported by NIH and NSF grants, with publications in journals such as Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Child Development, and Developmental Science.
Current research interests include infant object labeling, memory retention, and cross-linguistic influences on categorization. She is accepting graduate student applications for Fall 2025.
