Sandy Koullas (she/her) is a Lecturer and Teaching Fellows Program Coordinator at the University Writing Program (UWP) of Johns Hopkins University since 2021. She previously taught at the University of the Witwatersrand, SUNY Potsdam, and Georgetown University.
- Education: BA and MA in Philosophy from University of the Witwatersrand; MA and PhD in Philosophy from Johns Hopkins University
Her research focuses on ethics and African philosophy, particularly practical reason, character, virtue, and the intersection with moral emotions like love. She also emphasizes experiential learning in her courses.
Dr. Koullas teaches upper-level classes where students organize public-facing academic conferences. Her pedagogical philosophy centers on collaborative learning and building student confidence in critical thinking and expression.
