Dr. Brittany M. Tausen is an Assistant Professor of Social Psychology in the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core (BIC) at Baylor University. Her research focuses on social cognition and virtue science, including dehumanization, character education, and moral identity formation.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland
- Visiting Graduate Assistantships at Dartmouth College
- Post-doctoral Appointment at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business
Dr. Tausen investigates the causes of dehumanization, particularly toward individuals experiencing homelessness, and develops strategies for fostering humanizing perceptions. Her work also probes the cultivation of virtues like neighbor love to translate loving intentions into actions. She has co-led projects securing nearly $2 million in grant funding for character and faith formation research.
She is the coauthor of the upcoming book Love Your Neighbor: How Psychology Can Enliven Faith and Transform Community (Eerdmans, 2026) and directs the Classrooms that Cultivate Character initiative, which equips educators with research-based tools for integrating virtue formation into teaching. Outside academia, Dr. Tausen enjoys paddle boarding, binging podcasts, yoga, hiking, and making pizzas with her family.
