Sandrine Heutz is a Professor in Functional Molecular Materials at the Department of Materials, Faculty of Engineering at Imperial College London. She currently serves as the Head of the Department of Materials (since October 2022) and holds leadership roles as co-Director of the CNRS-Imperial IRC for Transformational Science and Technology, and Imperial co-Director of the London Centre for Nanotechnology (since April 2020). She is also the Academic Champion for SPIN-Lab, a cross-institution facility focusing on spin-based phenomena and their interaction with light.
Education: BSc in Chemistry from the University of Liège (Belgium, 1998); PhD in Materials Science from Imperial College (2002), titled 'Structural, spectroscopic and morphological properties of molecular thin film heterostructures'. Professional highlights include a Marie Curie fellowship at TU Chemnitz (Germany) and a Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship at University College London (2004–2008).
Research focuses on optoelectronic, magnetic, and quantum properties of molecular thin films; spintronic applications; novel oxide fabrication methods; structural characterization of films and interfaces; and nanowire devices. Affiliated with institutions like the Cancer Technology Network, Energy Futures Lab, and Shell-Imperial Advanced Interfacial Materials Science Centre.
Scientific Awards: IOM3 Silver Medal (2008). Professional roles include Chair of the EPSRC Physical Science Strategic Advisory Group and former UK representative for the European Science Foundation's MatSEEC committee.
