Sandra Wooltorton

Professor Sandra Wooltorton is a Professor and Senior Research Fellow at the Nulungu Research Institute, University of Notre Dame Australia, based at the Broome Campus. Her work focuses on transdisciplinary research integrating cultural geography, education, and environmental studies. She holds degrees including a PhD, M.Ed, B.Ed, and BA (Hons).

Her research emphasizes place-based philosophy, Indigenous knowledges, and environmental justice. She leads projects such as Kimberley Transitions: Collaborating to Care for Our Common Home and the ARC Linkage project on intergenerational cultural transfer of Indigenous knowledges. Recent contributions include co-convening special issues in River Research and Applications (2022) and Australian Journal of Environmental Education (2023).

Her interests include prefigurative cultures, bioregional flourishing, and multi-species justice, particularly in the Kimberley region. She explores pathways to recognize the value of rivers, Country, and Indigenous traditions in Western Australia.
