Sandra Sperino is the Elwood L. Thomas Missouri Endowed Professor at the University of Missouri School of Law. Her scholarship focuses on employment law disputes, particularly employment discrimination, tort law, and causation standards in federal cases. She has authored two treatises and a book recognized with the 2021 Civil Justice Scholarship Award.

Professor Sperino’s research explores how courts interpret employment discrimination statutes, with a focus on the McDonnell Douglas framework, causation standards, and retaliation liability. Her work analyzes procedural hurdles like summary judgment and class action waivers in discrimination cases.
Her 15 most recent publications examine trends in employment discrimination and legal causation, including critiques of the Bostock and Comcast rulings. These articles span subfields like evidentiary inequality, co-worker testimony, and cat’s paw retaliation.
